The boys absolutely cannot resist blowing all the fluffy seeds off when they find a dandy-lion, makes there daddy shudder to think of the dandy-lions cropping up in his garden.
There were a lot of Irish settlers in Newfoundland. I think they must have brought Ian's word "pissabeds" with them over the briny.....I remember when we were kids, if you picked a dandelion, because you thought it was beautiful, which it is, some snotty nosed, loudmouthed, short pants wearing boy would be sure to start taunting you with "Pissabed! Pissabed! You're going to wet your bed tonight!" At which all of his companions would fall around, laughing and jeering! Neanderthals! Lovely picture---"he loves me...puff...he loves me not....puff....he loves me.....puff..." and the pain of finding the last wisps blown away on "he loves me not!"

How time goes by. We used to call them 'clocks'
SMC's comment is interesting. In these parts, they're called "dandelions".
Hey, re: your comment on my blog, which toys would you like?
Witness the lowly dandelion gone to seed. And life's cycle continues.
In Newfoundland, by the way, they're called 'pissabeds.'
Not that I'm from there, I just like the name.
Can I make a wish?
How many wishes?
Cheers

Deemed weeds, they are no less valid than any other plant.
I love dandelions and can't consider them weeds. They are so cheery in their yellow incarnation and so hopeful when they trn to fluff.
*blows hard and makes a wish*
