Rise,
If you play, you can make the rules. Although I did not participate this week, I sometimes cheat by giving hints in my title. A number of people play Wordless Wednesday and visit each other's blogs commenting on the pictures. For me, it is a way to post some unusual or favorite pictures and a way to submit a post with no worries about text, grammar, and punctuation.

That sculpture certainly combines a number of elements, doesn't it? Where is it? What's its story?

AWESOME! Is it some sort of memorial to the fallen in the Irish war of the last century?

The figures atop seem sinister to me.

Gretchen ... this is a monument to the pilgrims who travel the Camino de Santiago across Northern Spain. Its located on a height about 20 miles from Santiago de Compostella.

Meggie ... I don't believe it!

Mollie .. wordless for me, cailin dana.

mjd ... oh good! I thought I might be breaking some unknown(to me) rule and upsetting some people who like rules to be kept! I too like the lack of script!

tanya ... it was the sheer size that attracted me to it in the first place! I don't know the full story because it was written in Spanish and mine is VERY basic! But, I think, its a celebration of the pilgrims journey as they near the end.

Barbara ... not a monument to the Irish but to the multitudes of pilgrims that walked the Camino.

Diana ... I don't particularly like it either ... religious monuments, unless they have some artistic merit, sometimes just don't do it for me ... it didn't feel sinister up close ...just ugly and huge.

Tanya .. forgot to say, the cross at the top lights up in the dark .. presumably to light the way for the weary traveller! Resonant of the star in the east???
