A Slight Touch of Hankering ....

This is where I would like to be today, and maybe tomorrow and maybe, even, the next day and the day after that.

Where its warm and dry and way up in the sky.

Up near heaven.

And, maybe there, I could spend a few hours or days, or weeks, or maybe, even years figuring out what the writing on the door means.

that door is amazing. the colour is stunning, the weathering is ageless, the two-toned wall is contrasting. It looks like a quilt waiting to happen.

And where is it? (Or are you keeping it secret?)

1. names of people who lived behind that door.
2. graffiti.
3. a message as to why the door is no longer used.
I Love your 'place'. My place is high up the mountain on The Rock beside The Lake. Thats where I am going to wait for all my loved ones.
Thought provoking post rise.

Very picturesque. Sounds like you need some quality 'you' time.

These are marvelous, relaxing photos.

As for the door -
Utergana - of or having to do with the uterus
Cotillas - a delicious sweet made with brown sugar
Agencia - agency

I'm fairly sure that it says something like "In the absence of sweets made from brown sugar, women with uteruses should seek assistance from a different office of this agency."

Then again, I could be quite mistaken.

Do you tease us by really knowing the answer to your question?
I rather like the answer by Tanya. And yes, the photo is wonderful. Well, they both are.

I'm guessing you are still in Northern Spain....

it's lovely! I want to come too!!!

It speaks about components of language - that's the dry translation that Altavista babelfish gave.

However, I vote for Tanya's explanation.

Aunty Evil said...

I can speak that language, and I can tell you that the writing says "piss off, we are sick of people taking photos of our door, how would you like it if we turned up on your doorstep and took photos, get lost!"

:)

the photo of the door is absolutely amazing. it looks like a painting.

PS. Can I come too?!!

It must be in Spain. Love the colour of the door, the mysteriousness of the writing. Bet whoever wrote it never imagined their scratching would one day be causing people in far flung places to scratch their heads and wonder....Tanya's sounds plausible. We could ask what the OC makes of it.......
You're hankering for sunshine aren't you, and peace and solitude and for the madding crowd to be gone---poof! That's part of what 's wrong with FL---no doors like that.....

It says, "All who would enter here must first figure out what this says..."

I like the idea of being in that hill for a few days.

on that hill? in that hill picture?

Beautiful photos. I hope you get there soon, wherever it is, and that the door's doubtless long history reveals itself to you.

Simply lovely.

Sadly, my aged high school Spanish helps me not at all with the writing on the door. Therefore, I will embrace Tanya's interpretation.

Love the door. Is the writing in Spanish?

I absolutely love the view here.

Such an enormous expanse, for the eyes and soul.

Agree about the door, but the curiosity bug would bite me and I would have to go through it after a very short while.

What's beyond the door... it would haunt me mercilessly.

For some reason, I like photos of doors and windows. There's just something about them that reveals so much character. And the photo of this door... has found itself in my favorite collections :) Thanks for that!

That is a lovely, restful place. What the door says is a mystery. Tanya's answer is marvelous

Tracey, does this mean you're tempted to start sewing??? Now where's Molly .....

Lee .. Northern Spain, but of course. A tiny, practically deserted village, halfway up to hills photo ... Good luck finding it!

Birdy .. I kinda like the fact that I don't know exactly what the writing means ... keeps me curious!

SG .. Just had some ofthat quality time ... 5 days in the rocks and wilds ... wonderful!

Tanya ... love this! Will definitely have to go back!

Meggie ... would I tease??? I really don't know what it means as the village was deserted when we stopped .. not a single soul to be seen ..

Fifi .. northern spain is right! Beautiful place but very far from the water ...

LGS .. Me too!

Aunty .. a linguist as well?! Is there no END to your talents!!

My float ... but, OF COURSE! All aboard ...

Molly .. got it in one! Get out of my head!

Puline .. on the hill, in the hill, over the hill ... What matters is THE HILL ..

Heart .. not likely to get there anytime soon .. but there ARE alternatives ..

Diana .. I don't even have aged high school spanish to fall back on so I too will embrace tanyas colourful interpretation ..

Barbara ... I love doors too ...
Yes, Spanish, I think ... well, it was in northern spain .. so either spanish or catalan ..

Wanderlust .. me too! but sometimes the old saying "curiousity killed the cat" comes to visit ...

Princess ... glad to be of service!

mjd ... it was indeed a restful place .. after 10 miles of constant uphill on the bikes it was pure HEAVEN ..

Lovely pictures and I'm SO delighted that you were a wee bittie tired after 10 miles cycling uphill in the heat of a Spanish afternoon. You're human! Though I'd be a whole lot more so.

I love that door and have a photo of it also (which sooner or later will end up on my blog). I came across your blog when I googled the words in an attempt to translate it. An hour later, using a combination of SpanishDict, Babylon, and Google translators, and more importantly, my 25-year-old "Penguin Spanish Dictionary" by James Jump, here is the translation I have come up with:

"Refrain from gossip, bad language, backbiting, and other components of the agency of (utergana?) busybodies as well as their union of (pitagorini?) parasitic sympathizers."

As you can see, there are two words I was unable to translate.
